Mask-ne| Derm name: Acne Mechanica. Acne caused by friction.
Did you know, Maskne is not a new topic? Maskne is common among athletes and professionals wearing masks. The good news is, that it CAN be treated! We’ve got four tips from professionals for you.
Tip #1: Treat your mask "like underwear and wash it frequently” -NYT
We estheticians recommend changing your mask often. If you use surgical masks, dispose daily. If you use fabric masks, wash them frequently and carry a couple extra around just in case. Use detergents and soaps that are free of fragrance and sodium lauyrl sulfate. Skip laundry softeners. If you use a surgical mask, spray with rubbing alcohol if you wear it all day.
Tip #2: Clean Makeup
If you can't wear a clean makeup (like the Pure Dermal Care mineral powder we carry) then try going makeup-free for a while--at least while wearing a mask. Or skip lip products and try a fun eye look or intensify your brows. Help your pores out and prevent further clogging!
Tip #3: Home Care
Now more than ever is the time to step up home-care game. We recommend washing your face two times a day; BUT, don't overdo it though! You’re skill will dry out. We recommend hydrating your skin and aiding blemish-healing with toner. Spritz hydrating toners like Skin Scripts Cucumber Hydrating Toner, Sea Splash Mega Moisture Mist or Mist Me to bring moisture like Hush Hydrate. Carry around cotton rounds and toner or toner pads to use throughout the day.
Tip #4: Treat Your Skin!
There's no better way to treat your skin than a good steam and extractions which a facial provides. We recommend bi-monthly facials for acne clients and monthly for the rest. We also do online consults. We can help you troubleshoot what is going on. We can fine-tune your home care regimen. We are an Arvada spa to help care for your skin.
